MRN Closure Amsterdam — Portbase System

Updated: March 2026Reading time: ~5 min

The Port of Amsterdam (UN/LOCODE: NL AMS) uses the same Portbase Port Community System as Rotterdam for export registration and MRN closure. Dutch customs (Belastingdienst/Douane) handle export clearance through the DMS system. Amsterdam handles a smaller export volume than Rotterdam but follows the same procedures.

Export Procedure in Amsterdam

Amsterdam uses Portbase for export registration — the same platform as Rotterdam. The export declaration is registered in Portbase, the container is delivered to the terminal, loaded onto the vessel, and customs is notified automatically through the Dutch DMS system.

Sounds complex? You don't need to know these systems — contact us and we'll take care of the entire process.

Why MRN May Not Be Closed in Amsterdam

  • Missing Portbase export registration
  • Data discrepancies between customs declaration and container data
  • Container transhipped to another vessel
  • Communication issues between Dutch and Polish customs systems
