How to Check MRN Status of an Export Declaration
Want to know whether your export declaration has been closed and IE599 generated? Below we explain how to check MRN status depending on the customs system and port of exit.
What Is MRN Status?
An MRN (Movement Reference Number) goes through several statuses in the AES system:
- Declared -- declaration submitted (IE515), MRN assigned (IE528)
- Released -- goods released for export (IE529)
- Presented at office of exit -- IE507 submitted
- Exited -- IE590 confirmed departure from the EU
- Closed -- IE599 generated and sent to the declarant
How to Check MRN Status -- By System
PUESC (Polish Customs System)
If you have an account in the PUESC system (puesc.gov.pl) with permissions for export declarations:
- Log in to PUESC
- Go to the AES/ECS2 PLUS module
- Search for the declaration by MRN
- The declaration status will show the current stage
If you don't have PUESC access, ask your customs agent or representative who filed the declaration. They have direct visibility into the status.
Portbase (Rotterdam, Amsterdam -- Netherlands)
The Track & Trace Export service in Portbase enables real-time tracking of export status. It combines data from various links in the chain: documentation, terminal acceptance, customs checks, and manifests.
Access to Track & Trace Export requires a Portbase account. If you don't have access, you can request MRN status checking through potwierdz-wywoz.pl.

ATLAS (German Customs System -- General)
If the export declaration was filed in the German ATLAS system (Ausfuhranmeldung), MRN status can be checked:
- Through customs software connected to ATLAS (ZODIAK, CargoSoft, etc.)
- By contacting the Hauptzollamt responsible for the port of exit
What You Cannot Check on Your Own
- IE518 (Exit Results) -- internal message between customs offices. Not visible to the exporter or their representative.
- Exact reason for non-closure -- the system does not state the reason; direct contact with the customs office of exit or port terminal is needed.
What to Do If the Status Shows a Problem?
If the MRN has “Released” status for more than 14 days after loading:
- Contact the forwarder -- ask about IE507/IE590 status
- Verify whether the container was loaded onto the planned vessel
- If the problem is not resolved -- contact us

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is MRN?
MRN (Movement Reference Number) is a unique 18-character number assigned by the customs system to each declaration. In export procedures, it appears on the EAD (Export Accompanying Document). Legal basis: Art. 226 of Implementing Regulation (EU) 2015/2447.
What does an open MRN mean?
An open MRN means the customs office of exit -- the border office through which the goods left the EU -- has not yet confirmed the export in the ECS system. As long as the MRN is open, IE599 will not be generated.
Where can I find my MRN?
The MRN (18 characters) is on the EAD (Export Accompanying Document) -- the document issued by the customs system when the export declaration is accepted. You can also get it from your customs agent.
Legal basis: Art. 335-336 UCC Implementing Regulation (EU) 2015/2447; Regulation (EU) No 952/2013 of the European Parliament and of the Council (UCC). Article updated: March 2026.
